"For
Entertainment Purposes ONLY"
That's the label you see on any form of paranormal service. It's funny
that you don't see that label on any of these paranormal television
shows. Why not? We're paying for them. I guess since they're on TV,
we're supposed to just KNOW that they're just for entertainment. Is it
scary that a lot of us don't get that, and are copying what we're
seeing, or believing in it like a religion?
In recent years, there has been an almost overwhelming
barrage of paranormal themed television shows to hit the tube. Some of
these programs have awarded an air of dignity and credibility to the
paranormal community. Others, on the other hand, have gone to great
lengths to over-dramatize the situation, and make us ALL look like a
bunch of fools.
And let's not forget how they've inspired thousands of copycat
investigation teams who instead of respecting the work that needs done,
would rather scam to see their name in lights. Be that as it may,
they're here, and they're here to stay, so those of us involved have to
take the good with the bad.
I think one of the main problems with a lot of these shows
is that they attempt to force a particular spiritual belief onto the
viewer. MOST of the time it's a belief in some specific form of divination. If you
DON'T believe in that particular form of divination that they're using
on that specific show that night, you're alienated. You might as well
just change the channel.
In this section of The Beyond, I'm gonna review each of
these paranormal shows with the same "open mind" that I use with
everything on the site. That means that I'm going to view it as someone
who is trying to LEARN about the paranormal without being cynical. That
ALSO means that if a show is showing me something, and it's trying to
tell me what to believe without offering different possibilities to
explain what I'm witnessing, or alternatives to their spiritual dogma,
I'm immediately gonna roll my eyes, and give it the 'For entertainment
purposes ONLY' label.
