To Thomas Shoop: I hadn't seen that documented case you mention. Will have to try to catch reruns when available.

To JC: Thanks so much! :)

I am pondering the same question as you could a evp and ouija board both cause the same paranormal connection. In truth I think they can as a documented case shows in paranormal state the tv show. A woman just had her sister and mother die and out of the blue picked up a digital voice recorder and started to record voices after several recordings the activity in her home increased. I would like to think that the question you pose that both board and tape can be gate ways for paranormal activity.

A wonderful article that brings up issues that I have certainly been thinking about. I believe that this issue hasn't been brought up because the Ouija board--or at least similar diving devices--have a long history in human culture. There is a history and culture related to the practice of using them, and there is a mystique that surround them. Devices like audio recorders are relatively new, and thus really aren't equated to use as divining devices by the general public.

Also, part of the issue is that Ouija boards are marketed as toys, and thus are more likely to be used by someone who is unfamiliar or uninitiated with "spirit communication." Someone using an audio recorder for EVP collection is probably assumed to be a little more familiar with the "spiritual realm." I certainly have thought about this specific question, realized that EVP collection can be equated to a high tech divining device, and act appropriately.

Thanks Patty for addressing a personal concern of mine. I'll sell you Marvin Gardens as a discount....there are reports of paranormal activity there. I'll keep Boardwalk however. I've had it cleansed.
