What is an RSS Feed?
An RSS feed is a basically a way for any website to use another websites content on their own pages. It's kinda like one local TV station using a show syndicated from another network, only in this case, it's usually some type of writing or news.

As a matter of fact, RSS stands for...
Really
Simple
Syndication

That's really all it is. If you want to read more about it, here's a link to Wikipedia's page on the subject.

All you do is code a RSS feed display into your webpage, copy the RSS feed URL, and paste it into your RSS display in the proper place in the code. Once you've done that, the feed, you've chosen will be displayed right on your website. You don't even have to update it. The host of the feed does that for you. It's a pretty lazy and effective way to get some interesting content for your site.

The scrolling window at the top of the page is an example of an RSS display. As a matter of fact, it's displaying items from OUR OWN Paranormal RSS feed.

RSS Displays
There are all sorts of RSS feed displays available to webmasters all over the Internet. Honestly, there are too many for me to even go into, but to give you an idea, they come in all shapes and styles, and with different features.

Many of them are also very customizable. You see the one at the top of the page? Take a look at it, and then take a look at the one on our front page. It's the EXACT same display. I've just coded it to make it look a little different.

The bottom line is that they can be customized to fit any website you may be working on. To help you out, here's a link to a page on one of my favorite coding sites. On that page, you will find a list of a few RSS displays for you to look over to see if you like them.

Here's the LINK, and I hope it helps. Oh, and if you're wondering, the one we've been using on this page is called "gAjax RSS Pausing Scroller".

Our Paranormal RSS Feed
At The Beyond, we have 2 RSS feeds. One is for our Articles & Editorials based on all aspects of the paranormal and unexplained. The other is for our News & Press releases for OTHER sites and organizations who have some news that they want to get out to everyone. If you wish to display our content, just plug one or both of the URL's below into your RSS Display.

Lastly, if you DO decide to use our RSS Feeds, PLEASE contact me and let me know where you're using it, so I can take a look. I think it would be kinda fun to make a list of the sites using it and link to them right here.

I can be reached on our message board, on my MySpace page, or at BeyonderBill@yahoo.com.

I hope this page was helpful!
